Fünfzehn elegante Zimmer und ein Gourmetrestaurant, das einer alten Ölmühle nachempfunden ist: Das ist ein charakteristischer und intimer Aufenthaltsort in Montefollonico, einem Landgasthaus inmitten der Hügel der Provinz Siena. Wir befinden uns in der Toskana, zwischen Pienza und Montepulciano, auf dem Kamm, der das Val D'Orcia und Crete Senesi trennt. In den frühen 70er Jahren haben wir Pionierarbeit geleistet, um unser Leben dem Gastgeber in diesem Teil der toskanischen Landschaft zu widmen.

Einige Jahre später nahmen wir an der Eröffnung der allerersten lokalen Gästehäuser und dem Aufkommen der toskanischen Feiertage als Muss teil.

Bewusstlosigkeit, Entschlossenheit oder nur Zufall? Wir wissen nicht genau, was uns hierher geführt hat. Ohne Zweifel eine gemeinsame und unbedingte Leidenschaft für Düfte und Aromen, für das geschmackvolle Olivenöl extra vergine, für Sangiovese-Weine, Salami und Käse unseres Sieneser Landes zusammen mit der Hingabe an die uralte kulinarische Gelehrsamkeit, die von Mutter zu Tochter wie die Alten weitergegeben wurde Landbewirtschaftungstechniken werden vom Vater an den Sohn weitergegeben.

Was uns aber vor allem angespornt hat, voranzukommen, war die Zuversicht, dass die Menschen bald oder später sicherlich wieder die Einfachheit und unsere Definition von Gastfreundschaft schätzen werden. Fast vierzig Jahre später können wir mit Stolz sagen, dass wir Recht hatten.
